Larry - Furniture Team/Building Maintenance

I got connected with The Next Door through my responsibility of picking up donated furniture for First Baptist Church. Requests to continue this work for The Next Door became numerous as the first and basic furniture needs were being addressed prior to opening for residents. Making the furniture pickups was very rewarding as I contacted the many individuals who had a strong desire to contribute to this ministry.

Many additional volunteer opportunities became available as construction type needs arose. I joined several other regular volunteers doing light construction and maintenance that prepared the building for use. The Program is now operating at full capacity and has regular needs for maintenance, as with any homeowner. Now there is a bonus in that we can see and interact with many of the residents, and know we are helping them reconstruct their lives.

There is a constant need for volunteers to do work that is simple upkeep but is very necessary. Retired and non-retired individuals are needed for the work. Ric Herrera is coordinating maintenance and is scheduling available volunteers so that each week is covered. The more volunteers that are available, the less each one needs to be scheduled.

Nancy - Front Desk Host/Spiritual Emphasis Team

I have learned that my call, as a believer, is to follow Christ. One place I find to do that at this time is at The Next Door. I love my job! Oh, it's not really a job with pay. It's a volunteer position four hours as receptionist at the front desk. Receptionists answer the phone, greet visitors, and share a friendly word with the residents of The Next Door.

Also, I am a member of the Spiritual Emphasis Team. I love my job! As members of this team, we teach Bible studies on Wednesday evenings, encourage the women to develop a time of daily devotion, and encourage them in prayer with their prayer partners. It's my calling and I love my job!

More volunteers are needed. Consider volunteering. You will be rewarded "far and above all that you could ask or imagine".
