BREAKING NEWS: THE NEXT DOOR HONORED AT WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE

The White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives has selected The Next Door for top honors in the nationwide "Portraits of Compassion" video contest sponsored by the OFBCI.
The three minute video, available for viewing above, was produced for The Next Door by Nashville videographer Derek Pearson and effectively and movingly portrays the mission and story of The Next Door and the Freedom Recovery Community through words and images of staff, former residents and a local pastor. The "Director's Choice" award was presented to The Next Door during the OFBCI's "Innovations in Effective Compassion Conference" in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, June 26 and Friday, June 27, 2008.

In addition to the video award, President George W. Bush highlighted The Next Door as a top national model of a faith-based nonprofit providing recovery support services through the federally funded, state-administered Access to Recovery Program in his remarks during the conference luncheon on Thursday. President Bush told the audience, which included members of the President's Cabinet, OFBCI Director Jay Hein, and more than 1,000 public and private-sector leaders, the amazing story of transformation taking place in women's lives through the work of The Next Door by sharing the story of former resident and current staff member Ramie Siler. Ramie and her daughter, Dawn, who just completed her freshman year at Vanderbilt University, along with The Next Door CEO Linda Leathers and Board Chair Andrea Overby, were special guests of the White House at the luncheon.
