When a woman comes out of incarceration, she is helpless, homeless,
and sometimes hopeless... Where can she go?

Welcome to The Next Door, where we are celebrating transformation in the lives of women in crisis. At The Next Door, the people, the program, and the place all contribute to helping women who are re-entering society from incarceration, rehabilitation, or homelessness. Our mission is to address the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of women in crisis, equipping them for lives of wholeness and hope.

Over 750 participants have lived in our original Residential Transition Center located in the heart of downtown Nashville at 128 Eighth Avenue South. Women enter a six-month planned curriculum accompanied by recovery support services to address issues of the co-occurring disorders of addiction and mental illness.

The Next Door provides
HOPE and HEALING to
women in crisis.

In July 2007, we added another component to our program in a permanent housing opportunity called Freedom Recovery Community. This 20-unit apartment complex at 2100 Clifton Avenue, Nashville, provides safe affordable living for women and their children. The unique feature of Freedom Recovery Community is the on-site access to services for co-occurring disorders, counseling, parenting classes, and early drug use prevention classes for children.

In May 2009, The Next Door celebrated Five Years of Serving Women and Children. This year, we have expanded our transitional program to Chattanooga and Knoxville. The Knoxville Residential Transition Center opened in February 2010, and the Chattanooga facility received its first residents in June 2010. Also in June 2010, the Nashville site began offering expanded Outpatient Services, including an Intensive Outpatient Program, outpatient groups, and low intensity residential services.

As we look forward to helping many more women across the State of Tennessee find that life CAN be different, we are always aware that the generosity of people like you makes this service to women possible. We are grateful to be supported by individual donors, churches, foundations and corporations, and government grants. Thank you for your interest in the mission of The Next Door and the women we serve.

Our residents are amazing women with stories of courage, some of which will be told here. We like to say that The Next Door is more than just a place to live. Our residents say,"We just call it home."
